My first impression of this book that is book that you want to take special care of. There is eight stories that are each illustrated by a different illustrator so each story has a unique feel to it. The stories included are: "The Little Mermaid"; "The Emperor's New Clothes"; "The Ugly Duckling"; "The Fir Tree"; "The Snow Queen"; "The Nightingale"; "The Princess and the Pea"; and "The Steadfast Tin Soldier".
My daughter loved looking through the book at the illustrations and asking questions about the stories. The stories are probably a little long to keep my 3 years olds attention during afternoon reading but good length for bedtime.
My favourite story is the "The Fir Tree". Since is now November, I can not help thinking about Christmas Trees. I love this story about the fir tree that spends his days wishing to be tall and big instead of appreciate his times among his fellow trees.
These classic stories have many different themes and this is reflected in the beautiful illustrations. Below is a selection of the colour illustrations in this book.
"The Little Mermaid" - Illustrated by Ayesha Lopez
"The Emperor's New Clothes" - Illustrated by Aleksander Zoltic
"The Ugly Duckling" - Illustrated by Polona Lovisin
"The Fir Tree" - Illustrated by Katy Hudson
"The Snow Queen" - Illustrated by Charlotte Cooke
"The Nightingale" - Illustrated by Ada Pianura
"The Princess and the Pea" - Illustrated by Victoria Assanelli
"The Steadfast Tin Soldier" - Illustrated by Ciaran Duffy
This is a book that would be a very special gift for Christmas or birthday. I look forward to reading these stories to my children in the future and hopefully a book that we will treasure for years to come.
